| Edwards Keeps His Eye On The Ball - And Bank

Sen. John Edwards may or may not win tonight's Iowa caucus, but he's keeping his eye on the ball - as well as the bank.

In a last-minute email to supporters, Edwards himself makes a pitch for contributions he can use to push into the critical primaries next week in New Hampshire and Feb. 3 in South Carolina:

RE: Urgent Message From Iowa

You and I have waited for this moment for a long time.

The polls continue to show that the campaign in Iowa remains too close to call. I wanted to take a moment to write to you today from Davenport, Iowa to let you know that I am doing everything I can here on the ground to continue meeting and persuading caucus goers to support my candidacy.

We are at a pivotal point in the campaign. And you can make an enormous difference in the outcome. No matter the outcome of the voting tonight in Iowa, my campaign is a winner and we have come this distance because of your support. We need to keep that momentum going as I head into New Hampshire and South Carolina.

The bottom line is that I need you to contribute to my campaign today. If you already have I am asking you to give again. If you have already given the maximum amount ($2,000 per person) I am asking you to ask your friends and family to join you in your commitment.

Your support means the world to me. Please contribute today. Our time is now.

You have my deepest appreciation,

John Edwards

Unless tonight's caucus is an unexpected runaway for one or two candidates, fundraising in the next week will take on a frenzied nature between all of the campaigns. Edwards isn't waiting until the last hands are raised in the VFW Halls, school gymnasiums and libraries across Iowa to get the message out.
