Kerry | Kerry Could Win Iowa; Latest Numbers (1/14/04)

To give you an idea of just how up in the air this whole thing is, just take a gander at today's Iowa poll numbers. (The parentheses represent the change from yesterday's numbers)

Howard Dean 24 % (-4)
Dick Gephardt 21 % (-2)
John Kerry 21 % (+3)
John Edwards 15 % (+1)
Wesley Clark 3 % (+1)
Dennis Kucinich 2 % (-1)
Joe Lieberman 1 % (no change)
Carol Moseley Braun 1 % (no change)
Al Sharpton - % (no change)
Other/Undecided 13 % (+1)

Note that Kerry has pulled even with Gephardt so that both Gephardt and Kerry are statistically tied with the "front-runner" Dean. Kerry certainly has momentum; he's gained six percentage points in just fouur days. Organization will be key and keep in mind that Dean's supporters might be passionate, but that doesn't necessarily translate into success. All this with 13% undecided (I would bet that less than half the undecided actually turn out)

Interesting fact in these poll numbers. Dean has been taking these people to task for voting for the Iraq resolution. But if you add up the numbers, it’s Kerry, Gephardt and Edwards 57%, and Howard Dean 24%. What happened to the supposed anti-war sentiment?

That’s a terrific point , popd. It confirms the theory that there isn’t as much of an anti-war sentiment as the media would have us think.
