Dean | Dean's Campaign Book Due
Dean's campaign book is due out in December. I know many of you are axious to get your hands on it so in the meantime you can go read Chris Suellentrop's brief summary at Slate. Excerpt: Chapter 2: Howard Dean, Farmer. Devoted to Dean's summer jobs as a teenager. Dean writes two sentences about working as a sailing-camp counselor but an entire page about his work on a cattle ranch in Florida. There he earned "agricultural minimum wage," cleared land, dusted crops, and in a yearning-macho voice worthy of Apocalypse Now's Col. Kilgore, he remembers "feeling the cool mist of the herbicide on my bare chest as the plane went over." Posted by Mike Van Winkle at November 19, 2003 08:10 AM | TrackBack Comments
‘…he remembers “feeling the cool mist of the herbicide on my bare chest as the plane went over.” Maybe this is the cause of his ‘anxiety attacks. Something about this picture makes me wonder if some of it sunk in through the scalp. Dean wouldn’t be calling himself FARMER while he’s trying to make himself look more like a COWBOY, now would he? Posted by: TexasGal at November 22, 2003 11:34 PM “feeling the cool mist of the herbicide on my bare chest as the plane went over.” I thought he said he dusted crops……..actually, he was part of the (turnip) crop being dusted. Doesn’t he know that herbicides cause brain damage??? I think has a very good case against the manufacturers. Posted by: Jeff B at December 6, 2003 02:43 PM Dock Animation. Sometimes animating icons in the dock can be useful in communicating the status of the system or application. Posted by: Annanias at January 23, 2004 11:24 PM Adhere to Window Models. Document windows, Utility windows, Click-through, Layering, Drawers, Controls. How do users open windows, how do you properly title windows? Posted by: Mark at January 23, 2004 11:24 PM This is the first thing your users see, and probably the single most important visible part of your application. It is the first chance you have at making an impression and the best chance to help establish your brand. Posted by: Edi at January 23, 2004 11:25 PM User Assistance. This is helping the user with the proper “next step” when performing a task. Less guesswork for the user on what to do next makes for a better experience. Posted by: Godfrey at January 23, 2004 11:26 PM Drawers. Similar to Sheets, this is a “child” window that gives users access to items that do not always need to be present. But when do you use a drawer and when do you use a palette? Posted by: Winifred at January 23, 2004 11:27 PM Adhere to File Locations. Make sure that when your users save documents, your application knows where to put them and also gives users flexibility. Posted by: Joshua at January 23, 2004 11:27 PM By building an application that takes advantage of Aqua’s many facets, you help ensure that your application will not only look good, but have a chance of becoming a raging success. After a new user clicks on the icon of your program, the first thing he or she sees is the application interface. I know that when I review a product, I am very critical of its visual design. I usually have a short time to learn the new software, so design and ease of use are very important. Aside from those who marvel at the beauty of the command line, most users tend to react the same way. Posted by: Jane at January 23, 2004 11:27 PM Dock Animation.
