Bush | Activism, Even In Death
Saw this item in my local paper yesterday and thought it brought political discourse to a whole new level: Gertrude M. Jones didn't want flowers or cards when she died. She wanted to get rid of President Bush. Now that's commitment to a cause ... any cause, apparently. Read the story here (and this post is cross-posted here). Why is it hate is only ennobling when it is directed at conservatives? If some crusty 81-year old had left in her will the request to ‘defeat the democrats’ there would be 4 talking heads on Sunday decrying the ‘hate from beyond the grave’ and drawing some lessons about the spirit of cooperation or diversity that could defeat such a sour approach to life (and death). Just a thought. I frequently reverse the parties in a story to see if the same outcome would be obtained. I wonder how many democrats would see a similar republican request as ‘activism’? Bloody few. I think it is so sad to go to your grave hating, hating, hating. I hope if I get to 81 I am at peace with the world and not so bitter. A sad reflection on what was probably a very sad life.
