| Should Dean Quit Iowa? Updated
Update: I've posted a column on this question at the Chicago Report. A new DesMoines Register poll is showing Dean losing ground to Gephardt in Iowa. Of course, Vodkapundit aptly calls this interpretation into question, especially given the rather high margin of error for the poll. But the question is, should Dean quit Iowa? no answers? I’m shocked! Posted by: mike van winkle at November 11, 2003 07:43 AM I would say, No. Dean has N.H. locked up and nothing big coming up. The closer he gets to beating Gephardt in Iowa the better. If he actually does win both N.H. and Iowa, furthermore, you can turn out the lights the party is over. Dean has nothing to lose, while Gephardt has everything to lose. This is almost win win for Dean. Posted by: what? at November 11, 2003 10:51 PM Winning Iowa only mattered when Jimmy Carter won it in 1976. Clinton didn’t win Iowa, or NH. Posted by: BKAY at November 13, 2003 10:33 AM Drop out of Iowa? What a nutty idea! It would be taken as a sign of weakness which would completely undo the successes of the couple of months and really anger the union folks who have just endorsed him. Let’s also not forget that the real point is not polls, but to gather convention delegates. Assuming it’s not winner take all, even if a candidate doesn’t get the most, getting some is better than getting none. This idea is just too weird.
