One thing to keep in mind about politicians, they’re not necessarily qualified to do anything except run for office. In a world where every profession has credentials and certification, the professional politician gets a pass. They don’t have to understand economics, they don’t even have to memorize the Constitution (like the time Clinton quoted the Gettysburg Address instead) - or be aware of an Electoral College (as many democrats loudly explained to a bemused electorate).

All you have to be is - popular. We don’t ask anything of our candidates and they never disappoint. It is a process that more closely resembles the run for Prom King than the rise of the CEO.

That said, the Founding Fathers expected amateurs to run this country, each for a short period of time, then return to their spot as a productive member of society. Granted, they had to be intelligent, moral men, not vacuous, blow-dried news anchors, but our generation isn’t as picky. Politicians were not suposed to spend their entire lives on welfare, pontificating to others how to best run their lives. They had to eat their own dog food when their run was over.

So why shouldn’t Graham surface on the Commie Home Companion? Maybe he could get a continuing role on The View. By not requiring much of our leaders, and being shameless limelight worshipers, we have totally confused celebrity with authority, but no one confuses it more than the celebrities themselves. We ask nothing of them - and boy, can they deliver.
