Edwards | Edwards Already at Do-or-Die Stage of Presidential Campaign

So say CNN, and it's not a headline you want to see if you're an Edwards supporter. His response: TV. Read the analysis here, and here's a sample:

"The next two or three months are critical," Edwards said aboard his huge campaign bus that is carrying his wife and two kids through Iowa and New Hampshire the next two weeks.

This month he began airing about $500,000 worth of ads in Iowa and New Hampshire, the states where Democrats will make their first choices early next year. The ads, scheduled to run for about four weeks, focus on his working-class upbringing, his policies to help the middle class and his argument that President Bush favors wealth over hard work.

The sooner we get this truth-distorting manipulator of jurors off the national stage, the better. He is patently devoted to service for self, not nation. The electorate deserves what it elects; as true in NC as in MA!

who?

Posted by: gijoe at August 16, 2003 10:19 PM

“Edwards wants to offer free tuition to freshman college students willing to work 10 hours a week. Parents would be required to insure their children under a health care plan that offered them tax incentives.”

Okay, just a couple of questions: what happens to parents who refuse to insure their children? What if you just want to pay for their doctor NPR?

At 10/hours/week, how much do you have to make per hour to pay for freshman year at Yale? Harvard? Brown? Or is some other sucker, eh, taxpayer, picking up the bill?

Run, John, run. Millionaire trial lawyers need a role model.

I can see that you’re just like us except for the kind of personal financial wealth that would have you ostracized as a republican. I guess when democrats are rich, they are the good rich, not the evil rich.

Arrgh! Get your ugly free tuition crap out of my face and out of this nation. Free Tuition = Nation’s Largest Tax Hike = Less income earned after we graduate = Welcome to Socialism.

There are lots of college students who ‘drool’ at the idea of free tuition even if it is at the cost of sky rocketing taxation or large sums of money being pulled out of the military.

College students can be so incredibly selfish and I bet all the 18-23 year old liberals are going to jumping around in glee at this malarky. Frankly, I am 100% more satisfied to have a $3,600 debt than to have no debt at all but to expect to earn only $15,000 entry level income at my career field.

Posted by: Jeff MacMillan at August 17, 2003 11:08 AM

It’s obviously not a serious proposal that will resonate nationwide. He’s simply trying to buy the support of college libs to energize his stale campaign. At the same time, he’s trying to deflate Dean’s successes with this same group.

So the ads will “focus on his working-class upbringing, his policies to help the middle class and his argument that President Bush favors wealth over hard work.” Hmmmm.

When a millionaire trial lawyer starts talking about “helping” the middle class, I start sweating. I remember the “middle class tax cut” Bill offered all the suckers out there. And somebody bought it.

One hard fast rule: the rich (and that’s republican, democrat, doesn’t matter) will always talk about “punishing” the wealthy for their ill-gotten gains, splitting their swag between the middle class and the poor. In reality, they’ll milk the middle class one more time (forgot to tell you, I define rich as anyone making more than $35K/year), sprinkle a little of that on the poor for effect and piss away the other 90% on hookers and room service (or as we like to call them, “junkets”).

Only 5% of the wealth in this country is inherited. The other 95% comes from hard work. Even millionaire trial lawyers know that. But they’re not going to let on. They know everyone hates the rich. They only hope to get above the fray by leaning hard on their “working class upbringings”.
