AP - Sharpton criticizes Bush for reluctance concerning Liberia
"It seems this administration's foreign policy is different, absolutely different, when it comes to people of color," said Sharpton. "I can't imagine that there wouldn't be intervention in Europe if thousands were dying in war." Posted by Martin at July 25, 2003 04:42 PM | TrackBack Comments
Aha! Even though we seem to be moving a lot faster into Liberia than we did with Iraq, Bush is STILL a racist, and the rest of the Security Council, whom we have not heard a peep out of, is not. Now I get it. Thanks Al!! Posted by: johnnymozart at July 25, 2003 05:07 PM US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq will surely welcome the Rev. Sharpton’s endorsement of the army’s new magical bullet-proofing process that makes peacekeeping troops invulnerable. They are no doubt eagerly awaiting the distribution of this wonderful substance to the front lines. Perhaps the Rev. Sharpton would care to see if he can get himself elected alderman before essaying the Presidency? I’m sure his many years of irresponsible rabble-rousing, borderline extortion, and experience as a stalking-horse for the New York Republican Party will strongly recommend him to the voters of his district. Posted by: Mitch H. at July 25, 2003 05:09 PM We’ve got to kill more blacks to prove our tolerance! Or is it we love Arabs more ‘cause we killed more of them? Posted by: DANEgerus at July 25, 2003 05:25 PM It’s all about the WEL-LLLFFFAAAARRE CHECKS Posted by: Sunami at July 25, 2003 06:23 PM Twelve years to move back into Iraq, and we didn’t give Saddam enough time. A couple months investigating Liberia, and suddenly we’re racist for moving slowly. Does Al think that the Iraqis are white? Cuz, we’re kinda busy helping them right now. People need to realize that if you play the race card every time you want something done, it’s going to lose impact. Nowadays, when I hear the word “racist” or “discriminatory,” there’s a 75% chance that it’s being used inappropriately. I pretty much ignore it, because there really aren’t that many true racists in the public eye. Posted by: Dalex at July 25, 2003 07:09 PM Hummmm…according to the democratic foundations and other assorted arguments, and in respect of such, we should not even go in to Liberia, there is no immenent threat to the good old USA. Do these idiots really feel that I am going to come back and vote democratic by throwing out such garbage The sharptons and Jacksons have never worked an honest day in their lives… who cares what they think I voted for Bush when I heard him call that reporter an “aszhole” when he thought the mike was off. God love him.. Gotta love the straight shooters ON the other hand Sharpton is comedic relief Posted by: atomicdog at July 25, 2003 09:55 PM Oh yeah, when Bush almost suckerpunched AL Gore when he walked onto his side of the podium during the debates…that was way too cool Posted by: atomicdog at July 25, 2003 09:57 PM atomic Dog said, “Oh yeah, when Bush almost suckerpunched AL Gore when he walked onto his side of the podium during the debates…that was way too cool” Uhhh…I missed this…..you gotta be shittin’n me…..I’d pay good money to see that. Was it just jokin’ around or was it like we were there? Posted by: Jeff B at July 25, 2003 11:25 PM I’ve seen Sharpton in action…..I used to think he was just a dumb ass …….Then I saw him just being himself, and I was impressed with his personality….He is nothing but a good actor tryin’ to make a buck….or 2 …or a million….Hey…who else could fill J J’s shoes. Funny….but when he was being himself….I kinda thought he was ok……Ok, slap the f—k out of me, and let’s move on. Posted by: Jeff B at July 25, 2003 11:31 PM OK. If we are going to Liberia we will have to have a plan. Instead of “Shock & Awe”, I call it Ton ‘o Bricks 1) Drop in the CIA and SPECOPS boys to compile a list of the top 10-20 bad guys in the country. Yes, that inlcudes Taylor. 2) Park a CVN [nuclear-powered aircraft carrier] off the coast, loaded with the new lighter PGMs. One F/A-18 can hit 12 swivel-chair-sized targets on a single sortie with 250-lb GPS-guided bombs. 3) Drop a MEU-SOC [self-contained bunch o’ Marines] and a Ranger Battalion [bunch o’ airbone snake-eaters] into the country and hit those 10-20 tagets with presion bombing, sniper rifles and silenced 9mm. 4) Objective; complete decapitaion of all major players in the revolution, murder and mutilation game in a single night. 5) Extract force. Repeat as as needed 6) Then the nice peacekeeping troops arrive. If there are any problems, see Item 4 above. 7) Field test the “XM-3A1 Goverment, Portable, Inflatable [1 each]”. Build rapport with enlightened emerging local leadership [item 4 above explains the ‘emerging’ part] 8) Get set to stay for 5 years [actually 20, unless item 4 above works particularly well] until saome semblence of civilization emerges and/or we train up about 5 battalions of dependable local troops. 9) Ask Condoleeza Rice to come on board as an ‘advisor’. [Actual title more like “Supreme Overlady of Goodness’]. Do what she recommends’, for god’s sake! In case of problems, see item 4 above. 10) Maintain “close, continuous, frank and substantive ” dialog with the UN. Translation: they get to run nothing bigger than a hot dog stand! 11) Hire an experienced media warrior to lead the Project Psyops Team. Create the most entertaining 20 minutes of daily “news from the trenches” the world has ever seen. Get a camera-friendly spokes-person [Catherine Bell from JAG!!] to do the daily pitch. 12) Prevent the construction of even a single decent hotel. Wreck any still standing. This will keep the reporters back in the studio, eager to recive item 11 above. Nothing less drastic than this levle of competence & craftiness is likely to work, so Plan B is : P.S. If you are appalled by item #4, I have bad news: Iast served in Mr. Clinton’s Excellent Balkan Adventure - AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE DID! [and are still busy doing, slowly & carefully, so as to not attact the media] Posted by: OldFan at July 26, 2003 01:20 AM ahhhhh… yes Jeff u missed it. Dude U spend way too much time in here pretending to be smart. T ake an internet break Posted by: atomicdog at July 27, 2003 01:58 PM BigGlowingDog! I know you crave the fireplugs on this block (blog) for yourself, but we like to lift our proverbial leg occasionally… So, put your head under the Xray machine, and fire off a couple of shots, just for EEE-fect. T ake an internet break “ Smart is the last thing I’ve ever thought I was, or pretended to be…….when it comes to common sense? I’ll kick your ass. Thanks for the tip off…..I know where you come from now. I scored 135 on the IQ test. That doesn’t make me smart. A diploma from Evergreen College doesn’t make you smart. Experience is what makes you smart. My guess is…you have more book than street smart. You will spend your life employed by a street smart person. Posted by: Jeff B at July 29, 2003 12:23 AM Jeff B- His ‘claim to fame’ is he’s an ‘Intern’. He’s a jealous kinda dog, you know? He likes to piss on fireplugs, and gnaw on cheap jokes, when he doesn’t have the Kryptonite dose tuned properly. OBTW, he writes his own scrips… I knew a Doctor once that… Forget it. His NIC is a good NIC. I just wish his minder would give him a bath, put a muzzle on him, and take him for walks in some other ‘hood. Not that I mind his POV, but his left ear droops. Makes him look lopsided. Or….is he an ‘intern’ like Monica Lewinsky? Posted by: Jeff B at July 29, 2003 10:37 AM People are just smart enough to not be happily ignorant.
