2004 US Presidential Election
July 14, 2003
A Different Kind Of Draft
Jack Beatty of the Atlantic Monthly believes Wesley Clark is The Ideal Candidate. Of the two candidates who did not support the war, Howard Dean would lose to Bush —his supporters must face political reality. As for Bob Graham, vehement as he has been about the Administration's subversion of democracy, he is a U.S. senator, and in the last hundred years Americans have elected only two senators. To be sure, they have elected only one General during that time. But if you ask which candidate Bush would least like to run against, the answer has to be General Wesley Clark. Also FYI, here's a link to the Draft Wesley Clark website. The last thing we need is a ticket-puncher like Clark. Say no to this weasel. Posted by: Penosity at July 14, 2003 11:27 PM I agree with Penosity. The Army is taking casualties in Iraq because of stupid ROE the ticket-punching brass dreamed up. Rumsfeld is trying to browbeat these dinosaurs into the 21st Century, but is being stymied by their good ol’ boy network. (Either that or he’s going hands-off to let them fail in public, yet again, to gain more political capital with which to bitch-slap them silly some more. It’s a damn shame for the LCPL who has to take the bullet for this gambit, though.) To have such a man elected would surely cause retention to plummet. Posted by: Samuel Tai at July 15, 2003 02:04 AM What’s Jack Beatty’s definition of elected? Don’t we elect over 30 senators every two years? Posted by: TBox at July 16, 2003 09:04 AM I would assume he means, “elected President,” though I can’t speak to the fact of the assertion.
