Dukakis: Why Bush Is Vulnerable

Dukakis makes this argument in BusinessWeek Online, and you may read it here. Oh, and he likes Kerry. For the impatient, here's a taste:

Q: But surely this will be an uphill struggle, won't it?

A: I don't mean Bush is easy pickings. He's going to be tough, and they're going to work like hell to stay in [office]. For one thing, he has 300 gazillion dollars. But all I can tell you is that a guy who was at 44% on reelect the week before he invaded Iraq -- assuming this Middle Eastern situation continues to be bogged down -- has problems and is beatable. But not by everybody. That's why I think John [Kerry] is so compelling.

This from a guy who, by the end of his democrat governorship, had done more to turn a few million democrats in a democrat state into republicans.

Bush’s numbers are slipping, as I have said before, you have to have a good economy, young people are graduating from college & no jobs. Rest of the country not in as bad shape as NE OK but our unemployment rate is running over 7%. The rest of the country running @ 6.4. That is not counting the people that used to sit behind desks & now are checkers @ Walmart, or the people that have gave up looking.

Sophia,

Which part of the second quarter did you miss? It was the best quarter economically since 1998.

I have a feeling the recovery will not be covered by the mainstream media in this country. They’re going to want to hold onto doom & gloom for at least another 16 months.
